WKRP in Cincinnati show complete dvd box set collection all tv episodes and seasons on dvds

WKRP is an American comedy that originally aired on the CBS television network to an American audience on the 18th of September 1978 through to the 20th September 1982; CBS eventually cancelled the series in 1982, but not before making the show a blockbuster after it went into syndication.

The television series aired for four full seasons and a total of 88 episodes with 90 in syndication and was such a success it won 10 Emmy award nominations, a Humanitas prize.

The sitcom was created by Hugh Wilson an American born director, script writer and actor, who is also credited for creating ‘Frank’s place’, another popular American television series. His creation WKRP in Cincinnati is loosely based upon Hugh Wilson’s experiences in advertising on an album oriented hit rock radio station.

The ensemble cast for the WKRP in Cincinnati show on DVD had Gary Sandy as the program director Andy Travis, Howard Hesseman as the washed out DJ Dr. Johnny Fever, Gordon Jump as the middle aged general manager Arthur Carlson, Jan Smithers as bailey quarters the young and innocent on air news reporter (originally in charge of station traffic and billing), Loni Anderson as the sexy radio station receptionist Jennifer Marlowe, Tim Reid as the funk -ful and soulful evening Disc Jockey Venus Flytrap, Richard Sanders as the new reporter Les Nessman who is caricatured by his dress code (always wearing a bow tie) and his almost total incompetence and Frank Bonner as the tasteless and boorish advertising account executive Herb Tarlek.

As was the norm of most MTM productions, the characters in the show would develop over the 4 seasons that it was aired; the comedy in the series was not in written outlandish situations and plots but in the careful use of humor and gags based upon the quirks and characteristics of each characters role.

After the show concluded, a spin of sequel was created en-titled the new WKRP in Cincinnati in which Richard Sanders, Gordon Jump and Frank Bonner reprised their roles for another 3 years in syndication from 1991 to 1993.

In the new plot, Andy Travis continues his struggle to try and ‘resurrect’ an ailing radio station despite well hearted efforts of seemingly incompetent staff.
